When stanley kubrick died on march 7, 1999, he had not yet completed the fictionalization of his long-in-development and highly anticipated film, which was released in 2000. This film, which recreates a story written by the viennese novelist arthur schnitzler in 1926, stars nicole kidman and tom cruise. Following a series of complex events, this film, which re-examines the meaning of marriage and life, brings kubrick's maturity as a director to the big screen.

This review, which delves into key themes like social status, elites, games, reality, and taboos, challenges viewers of eyes wide shut to reconsider what they've seen. it sparks significant curiosity, even for those who haven't watched the film, prompting them to reassess their understanding of the subject matter.

michel chion, while analyzing the film scene by scene, does not overlook the integrity of the story. This film, which allows us to look at our lives again through the heroes of the film, who struggle with the basic problems of real people, no matter how far away they are, deserves to be deeply thought about.

michel chion, in carrying out this task, invites film buffs and all readers to rejoin this great feast.
