"blood spilled for these days. The stains in our sheds are not the blood flowing from the sacrificial altars, but the stains of the blood flowing from the veins of our sons and daughters who died so that we can live. "a ""wheat grain"" tells the extraordinary intertwined lives that were declared in kenya between 1952-1960, revealing kenya's independence struggle in the light of historical facts." In the finely woven stories where courage and fear face loyalty and betrayal, fiction and reality walk hand in hand.

This novel, published in 1967 by ngugi wa thiong'o, one of the most important names in african literature, tells the story of those sent to detention camps, those who went to the forest to fight the white man, those who betrayed their own freedom struggle, those who exploited, those who resisted to survive the cruelty, poverty and hunger. it also questions what was gained and lost with the independence that came in 1963. "joseph conrad's ""under western eyes"", a revolution and betrayal novel modeled on ""a grain of wheat"" language content and vision, takes its place in the list of modernist novels shaped by hesitations about historical space, revolution, and moral rights." A wheat grain is also remarkable for its literary high modernism style, which both internalizes and overturns with the dominance of iron in its content (.

) the success of a grain of wheat can be linked to ngugi's skillful deployment of modernist form to narrate the policy of change in post-colonial africa.
