Ayrıntı Yayınları Marksist Modernizm

Product description

For the first time, this book brings together the lectures of the legendary philosopher on art, marxism and critical theory.

marxist modernism offers a comprehensive, concise, and conversational introduction to the frankfurt school. The book is also a new resource that opens up to the thought of gillian rose, one of the most important philosophers of the twentieth century.

These lectures, delivered by rose on the frankfurt school in 1979, outline how members of the school and surrounding thinkers, including names like adorno, lukács, brecht, bloch, benjamin, and horkheimer, each transformed marx's theory of commodity fetishism into a marxist cultural theory, while exploring their lives and ideas.

"robert lucas scott and james gordon finlayson, editors" "the best starting point for the generation that's just discovering rose: a text that reminds us where it all began." ...a return to a time when modernists could still be marxists and theologians were considered relics of a bygone era.

” peter osborne, author of crisis as form“reading these lectures is like watching the work of a great mind. With the vibrancy of discovering a sharp and still-relevant left-wing intellectual tradition, rose channels this excitement into her teaching. "james butler, london review of books" "rose masterfully reimagines the first wave of critical theory as 'marxist modernism.'" Reading these lessons today is a painful reminder of how much we've lost from the relationship we built with his sharp intellect, and how much we still need him. "prof. j. m. bernstein, new school for social research: these lectures are truly eye-opening: enthusiastic, passionate, brilliant, and ambitious."

a gift that is late for all of us.
