Yayınevi details publications author bülent diken barcode 9789755396057 number of prints 1. Print year: 2011 page count: 224 binding: paperback while the roots of contemporary life's most pressing issues lie in nihilism and the paradoxical logic of nihilism – which both creates and destroys society – the subject of nihilism has surprisingly been neglected in social theory. This book systematically explores the four primary forms of nihilism: escapist nihilism, radical nihilism, consequential nihilism, and what is known as "perfect nihilism." It focuses in particular on the synthetic synthesis that distinguishes between significant nihilism (the negation of desire) and radical nihilism (the negation of desire), on hedonism/direction loss, the most prominent qualities of contemporary post-political culture, and on forms of violence and unhappiness that arise in response to it. After the first section, which deals with the genealogy and consequences of nihilism, comes as an intermediary, the analysis of a familiar film, nuri bilge ceylan's film climates. The second section focuses on the "social" aspect of the issue, linking nihilism to capitalism, post-politics, and terrorism. Then, theoretical arguments are put into flesh with the analysis of houellebecq's works. In the third section, the importance of concepts such as event, agonism, and antagonism within this framework is highlighted, and the potential for overcoming nihilism is explored.
