Named after plato's close friend criton, it is featured in the dramatic fiction called the apology of socrates and between phaidon.

socrates has been tried by the athenian popular court for impiety and for corrupting the youth, found guilty and sentenced to death.

although his sentence should have been executed the next day, it was not possible due to the apollo festival celebration, and socrates had to spend about a month in prison.

the crito depicts a conversation between socrates and crito in a prison cell, two days before his execution. The conversation begins with criton visiting socrates very early in the morning and offering him an escape proposal from athens. It says that preparations have been made to allow socrates to escape from prison easily and safely, and that he can comfortably live in tesalya or any other place he wishes. Socrates suggests that they examine together the idea of running away against the will of the athenians and the rule of law.

the only consideration in this is whether it will be a fair and accurate style of movement. The review examines this point and concludes that it would be wrong to run away.
