Product description

“why did we ruin everything?” — post-wwii, 1940s.

a small imaginary italian town is trying to break free from the grip of fascism.

The 27-year-old elsa, who was born and raised here, dreams of a future free from the burdens of the past, as she recounts the tragedies, the neighborhood and kinship, the loves and gossip, the shattered dreams and the struggles to find happiness in this town during the period of war and post-war urbanization. However, it will not be easy to find a way to new horizons with the heavy baggage and the wreckage of the past.

the sound of the evening, recognized as one of the best novels of ginzburg, reveals a deep story about first love and lost chances, while drawing an abstract portrait of the italian society, torn by fascism and the weight of the war.

“the sounds of the evening is the story of people who try to bury their thoughts, to define each other only through gestures and words, and who ultimately find themselves in a vice of absurdity and pain. "italo calvino ""ginzburg rarely directly addresses politics - especially fascism - but the shadow of fascism, just like over the characters, hangs over the book."
