CAN Hamburg

Product description

When the fire season engulfs hamburg, the city is not only facing physical destruction, but also a profound historical and personal transformation. People escaping the first colds find refuge in a bookstore, searching for something about themselves among the shelves smelling of tobacco. In a place not too far away, a group of people who don't know each other come together every monday at the same time to read sections from the books they have chosen.

one day, one of the participants in the reading rituel brings a few novels of a writer who has lost his way. The mysterious author of the books takes them to the middle of lives that have experienced all kinds of horrors, imprisoned in underground shelters, amidst the ruins of 1943 hamburg, the firestorms caused by the bombing planes. In one of these lives, the child, who takes a body, will decide to collect all the pieces of his own story after many years and understand who he really is. The painful faces of misery and helplessness, and the ghosts, including roosevelt, churchill, and hitler, come back to life in his words.

The geography of oblivion, an anatomical map of memory and a literary record of a massacre, hamburg, between fiction and reality, nightmare and dreams, in the very middle of the voices cut off from hunger, bodies worn out with anger and ashes of memories, rises like a majestic monument.
