As dostoevsky put it, "it's been years since our beautiful country's precious children have been involved in developmental initiatives." These were years when, in russia, things were changing across the board, from the disintegration of the empire to shifts in the relationship between military bureaucracy and the ranks of impoverished officers. In this instance, one of the generals, ivan ilyich, the protagonist of this novella, begins to advocate for the good behavior towards lower-ranking officers. Accordingly, the characteristic of the new era that will open before them will be this: humanism. But first, the general is ridiculed among his friends, and then, under the influence of alcohol, he goes out and causes an unpleasant incident. An unpleasant event is one of fyodor dostoevsky's early novellas.

but it is an extremely contemporary and considerate masterpiece.
