Product description

One leads, i would like to say, a symbolic, a representative being, similar to a prince-and, look: in this pathos is the germ of a very strange thing, which i once intend to write, a prince- a novella, a counterpart to 'tonio kröger', which is to be titled: 'royal highness'. In december 1903, a year and a half before the start of the writing, thomas mann already knew how he would call this "comedy in novel form," which kept him busy until february 1909.

Lovingly told, with a certain inclination toward parody, he recounts the story of a small residence before the first world war, featuring the life-loving prince klaus heinrich, who suddenly finds himself in the ceremonious yet economically rigid world of his court confronted by the entirely different, pragmatic perspective on things of the american billionaire samuel n.

Spoelmann and, above all, his daughter imma confront.

They both gain trust in each other and, after he learns to open up to the "real studies in public welfare," finds, through marrying her and securing the urgently needed finances for his state, a "strict happiness" together.
