Neroli essential oil is obtained through hydrodistillation or steam distillation from the flowers of Citrus aurantium L., a tree belonging to the Rutaceae family and commonly known as bitter orange. Neroli essential oil has a floral, exotic citrus aroma. The essential oil has important therapeutic properties such as antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. Other therapeutic properties include sedative, calming, tonic, aphrodisiac, antidepressant, and antispasmodic effects.
