İthaki Yayınları Going, Gone, Gone

Product description

"at the end of august, on a thursday, ten men gather in front of the red town hall in berlin."

it is said that they will go on hunger strike.

their skin is black.

they speak english, italian, french.

and some other languages that no one here understands.

What do the guys want? "retired professor richard, while struggling with questions about his own life, encounters african refugees carrying out an occupation action in the heart of berlin, and decides to search for the answers to his questions among these young people, where no one is looking." This is the moment when richard, one of the elderly residents of old europe, first turns his gaze to someone other than himself. As the world reels from a refugee crisis, richard steps out of his own small, safe cocoon for the first time. Jenny erpenbeck's latest novel, going, gone, speaks of a world where those who have to flee their countries are doomed to eternal waiting, where death and oppression are fought. This is a novel that calculates with the relationship between looking and seeing.

the shallowism of those who look but do not see, who do not want to see, hits our face.

going, gone, gone asks the right questions to which the person cannot evade to confront.
