Product description

Beautiful is not only pretty

it's a self-sustaining meaning, a call for us to seriously seek an answer. In "the beautiful," hans-georg gadamer critiques the modern aesthetic's tendency to reduce beauty to subjective taste, superficial pleasure, or a consumable image.

the aesthetic experience rethinks, as an original way of man's encounter with the authentic. According to gadamer, a work of art is not a passive object

it is an event that draws us in with its play, symbol, and festival dimensions, transforming us. Meaning is not consumed in the artist's intention or the audience's judgment

it is reborn with each encounter, creating a "fusion of horizons" between past and present. This approach carries the fundamental claim of gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics into the field of aesthetics: understanding is not the application of a method to an object, but a living encounter between tradition and the present. "art, just like texts, ""speaks"" to us, calls out with a claim of truth, and demands our participation." Beauty, in this sense, is neither a decorative excess nor a promise of escape from the world

it is a foundational experience that re-establishes one's relationship with the world, others, and oneself.

on beauty is a basic text for all those interested in aesthetics philosophy, hermeneutics, art theory, and modernity criticism, demonstrating why beauty is still a philosophical necessity.
