tolkien made up a story about a dog named rover who was turned into a toy by magic and his quest to find the wizard who could return him to his previous state."as later known as ""roverandom"", rover meets a sand wizard, a terrifying dragon, the king of the sea, and the man on the moon during his adventures."

Knitted brilliantly and adorned with word games. Although roverandom was planned to be published in january 1937, the same year as the hobbit, the work could not be published because publishers wanted a sequel.Tolkien began writing the lord of the rings instead.

roverandom was finally released in 1998."fans of ""the lord of the rings"" will greatly enjoy the scandinavian mythology-inspired ideas and tolkien's wonderful understanding of space."In this edition by hammond, there is an introduction detailing the story's relationship with tolkien's other works, the hobbit, the silmarillion, and letters from santa. In addition to these, illustrations that do not come from tolkien's hand also accompany the texts.
