Wrap the cuff around the upper arm so that the lower edge is just above the elbow joint. Place the stethoscope over the brachial artery beneath the cuff. Using the hand pump, inflate the cuff until blood flow is temporarily interrupted. Slowly open the air valve and listen through the stethoscope for Korotkoff sounds. When you hear the first sound, read the systolic pressure; when the sound disappears, read the diastolic pressure. Deflate the cuff completely, then remove it and record the reading
