Nizoral is an antifungal medication used to treat a variety of fungal skin infections, including dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, jock itch, athlete's foot, and pityriasis versicolor. Nizoral is available as a shampoo and cream. Nizoral Shampoo: Contains ketoconazole, a broad-spectrum antifungal. Used to treat dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. Helps relieve the itching, scaling, and redness associated with dandruff. Usually used twice a week. Leave on the hair for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. Improvement may be seen within two weeks of regular use. Your doctor may recommend using Nizoral for 4-8 weeks for best results. Nizoral Cream: Used to treat other fungal skin infections such as jock itch, athlete's foot, and ringworm. Apply to the affected area twice daily. Use until symptoms are completely gone. Important Notes: Nizoral is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. If symptoms persist or worsen, consult a doctor. Nizoral may cause mild irritation or itching in some cases. There is no known resistance to ketoconazole, the active ingredient in Nizoral. Some Nizoral shampoos are intended for daily use, while others are for use twice a week.
