Product description

Author: Haji Jaber Publication Date: 2023 Book Category: Fiction Publisher: Hayat Publications Number of Pages: 253 Format: Paperback Synopsis: This Saturday could have seemed quite ordinary in Addis Ababa

just like any other December day

the sky clear, the weather cool, and the bars preparing early to welcome crowds who don't let the weekend pass without venting their frustrations on the comfortable benches of Stella, Heineken, Guinness, Corona, and Harar

and the bench of the toiling masses: St. George, whose name, once adopted by a football team, doubled its popularity before it had even achieved anything

it could have been all that, were it not for what was happening at that very moment in another part of the city, giving this time of year a certain uniqueness

five buses in succession, surrounded by two police cars, were speeding along, amidst a light drizzle, from the assembly point in Meskel Square in the center of Addis towards the Bole suburb where the airport is located. On both sides of the muddy asphalt road, for six kilometers, stood curious, resentful, jealous, and grieving farewell-takers. Only the last group waved, so that nothing could be seen but the reflection of their shattered images on the opaque bus windows.
