People began to draw from the offerings of the new civilization and interact with them. One effect of this change was the Arab reader's shift away from reading long poems, replacing them with short pieces that suited their taste in terms of form and content. The oldest of these selections that we know of is what Abu Tammam collected and became famous among the later scholars and was known as Al-Hamasa, named after its first chapters, followed by other chapters which are: Inheritance, Literature, Love Poetry, Satire, Guests and Praise, Attributes, Wit, and Blame of Women.
