It places it inside the day of dalloway.

In the novel, which woolf describes with the technique of masterfully using the stream of consciousness on a day in the life of 'clarissa dalloway' and where almost all of the events occur in the subconscious of the heroes, she incorporates the images of the past into the images of the present, delicately depicting desires suppressed by the pressures of the external world.
