Product description
Susan simard, a professor of environmental and forest sciences at the university of british columbia in canada, through her interaction with the indigenous forest inhabitants and drawing from their cultures, discovered networks that extend beneath the earth and connect the roots of trees to each other. nutrients are transferred through these networks between trees depending on the seasons and climate and environmental conditions. this network contains simple and complex organisms that contribute to biological diversity and enrich the soil with the elements necessary for the prosperity of trees, and provide trees with defenses that protect them from natural pests and fires. trees are also able to send warning messages through the fungal network to other trees, and if they are unable to continue, they pass on their remaining nutrients to the saplings and trees around them, which is what the 'tree mothers' do, that is, perennial trees, a name that the indigenous people used before simard for decades. tree mothers nurture the small saplings from their first stages of growth until they grow and become self-sufficient, and then they reproduce and nurture their young to become tree mothers as well.
