İmge Kitabevi Yayınları Leyla

Product description

Our author was born in turkey, grew up in germany and writes in german. "unlike feridun zaimoglu's previous works, ""leyla"" is the first novel written not in a strange and original language called turkish-german-argot, that is, in normal german. when it was published in 2006, it caused great storms in germany." Zaimoglu is already one of germany's star writers. He started writing out of anger at the miserable conditions he was in, writing in an original language filled with plenty of humor and satire. He says he wrote his mother's story in leyla. It tells the story of a young girl who grew up in a small town in eastern anatolia, getting married and going to istanbul, and then to germany.

however, the novel takes place entirely in turkey

germany is never mentioned. A poor family, many siblings, an overly violent bad father, and like him, a novel leyla who revolves around her peers in their growing age. It is described how women, whose voices have not been heard until that day in leyla, managed to overcome difficulties. The author recorded his mother's story on tapes during a challenging work process and wrote his novel by paying attention to the voices of other women from the first generation to use in his novel.

"feridun zaimoglu says, ""it seems difficult today to understand the excitement of the great beginning that was found at that time."" but if respect is shown to the women looking for food and clothing in the ruins after the war, it is necessary to give the place -value- they deserve to these strong turkish women who took the first step to germany." We believe that zaimoglu will become a star in turkey just like in germany.
