Sierra Kitap Mürebbiye - Hüseyin Rahmi Gürpınar

Product description

The work of hüseyin rahmi gürpınar, the tutor, is a shocking novel that deals with the cultural conflicts and moral decline experienced in the distinguished residences of istanbul in the late ottoman period, in bold language.

when the work tells the story of a mansion turned upside down by the arrival of a french governess, it reveals strikingly the efforts of the period to westernize, the change in social values, and the perception of sexuality.

gürpınar, while telling the story of the main character, mademoiselle anjel's efforts to seduce the men in the mansion, actually makes a sharp criticism of superficial modernization and cultural decadence.

the author skilfully depicts the misery and hypocrisy of the characters, making the reader laugh and think deeply at the same time.

governess is not only a scandalous story, but also a multi-layered work in which the clash of east and west, social gender roles and moral values are questioned. The novel, presented in today's turkish, continues to be one of the milestones of turkish literature, not only with the debates it created when it was written, but also with its themes that remain relevant even today. Gürpınar's pointed language and bold narrative take the reader to the hidden corners of late 19th century istanbul, while revealing the complexity of human nature and the fragility of social norms.
